Despite the poor weather the antique fair proved very popular with the number attending up on last year. Thanks must go to all the Friends of Nantgarw who help the organising of such a popular fund raiser for the Museum. We are still trying to raise funds so any donations will be very graciously received.
During the day a rare Nantgarw cabinet cup, minus its handle and in an unfinished state of decoration, decorated by Thomas Pardoe, was purchased by one of the stand holders. An example of a completed cabinet cup with similar decoration can be found in the very infomative booklet on Nantgarw Porcelain by the late Rowland Williams which are on sale at the Museum £8.50 plus P P

Those of you that missed Jonathan Gray on Thursday the 16th of February missed a very interesting and enlightening talk on Swansea printed wares .

As always his views were slightly controversial but he backed them up with documented evidence and some well educated reasoning .The full Nantgarw house expressed their appreciation at the end of a very enjoyable evening.

Nantgarw Porcelain Vase Returns to Nantgarw China Works Museum

A rare and beautiful Nantgarw Porcelain vase has returned to the place it was made. Through the BBC TWO programe Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, this rare Nantgarw Porcelain Vase was bought at a boot sale by James Lewis for £38 who initially thought it might be Spode, after a lot of research he contacted dealer Stuart Brown of The Welsh Connection and asked him to confirm his new idea that it might in fact be of Welsh origin and would he be interested in purchasing it if it was indeed Nantgarw. They agreed to meet at Nantgarw House home of the Nantgarw China Works Museum the place the vase was made . Stuart confirmed that it was in fact a very rare Nantgarw porcelain vase which had been decorated in London and after a little haggling agreed to purchase it for the grand sum of £3600 the profit going to a charity of James Lewis choice. The Nantgarw Vase has since been sold to a local private collector and it is hoped the vase will be on show at Nantgarw China Works in the near future

The friends of Nantgarw spent a day gardening and clearing overgrowth at the Nantgarw museum . Overgrowth had started to cover pathways ,saplings were turning into trees and the house was permanently in the shade, 14 helpers turned out and the day turned into an enjoyable one, hard work for the not so young, but the end result was a very rewarding one.

The friends and trustees of Nantgarw museum are in the early stages of reorganizing and regenerating the museum.

We will be holding Spring Talks at Nantgarw Museum:-

February 16th at 7.30pm ’Jonathan Grey’ will be giving a talk on Welsh Pottery and promoting his new book on Ceramics.

March 15th at 7.30pm ‘Ronald Austin’ will be giving a talk on Royal Doulton China.

April 19th at 7.30pm There will be a members forum, Chaired by Andrew Renton, Head of Applied Art at the National Museum, Cardiff. Members can bring along a piece of China/Pottery or anything else and tell us something about or have it

identified if we can. This will be an informal evening where

we can all have chat and enjoy a cup of tea/coffee with home

made cakes. New members are welcome.
